Men Deserve a Trip to a Men’s Salon

Man-shaving small

Men will often wonder at how women can spend hours at a salon getting manicures and pedicures, and having their hair done. They go in early in the morning and come out in the afternoon not really looking better than what they did before, but obviously feeling better. The man’s typical visit to one of these salons is typically cut short by the burning smell of some sort of chemicals that peels the nose hairs out of his nostrils. If a man were to experience the salon lifestyle in a place like the Art of Shaving where it is all about the testosterone and getting treated well, he may not have to wonder about the appeal of the salon. Though both genders will get something different out of the salon experience, they will be similar enough to create a common ground for both to enjoy services on a regular basis.

A Men’s Salon

It is possible that the biggest differences between a men’s salon and a women’s salon are the topics of conversation and the smell of chemicals. Men get a bad rap for having a sense of smell that is less than what women generally experience. The problem is that when a man doesn’t like a smell, he will not stay in the area. Often times, that is why the trash doesn’t get taken out; it just smells too bad. In a men’s salon, it is highly likely that the conversation topics will include sports and work, assuming that there is a conversation at all. Many men are just content to sit there and not answer awkward questions that may reveal too many emotions unless those emotions are outrage or jubilance about a sports team’s performance or a referee’s debacle. Some women think of this as stunted emotional growth, but men just know that some things are better left unsaid so as not to make them real.

Services at the Salon

What makes places like the Art of Shaving different from other haircut places or salons is that they specialize in the one thing that men find the toughest to get right shaving. For most men, shaving is a pain filled with rusty disposable razors, hot water, razor burn and cuts. The experience is not a pleasant one because many men haven’t been taught how to shave, and those that have been taught learned bad habits. However, as Jodie Foster and Richard Gere showed in “Mr. Somersby,” shaving can truly be a rewarding experience when it is done correctly. The most valuable thing that a man can learn for himself and his significant other is how to properly shave his facial hair. The use of a shaving brush, shaving soap and a quality razor followed by the application of the right after shave can transform a chore into a pleasure that can be recreated with every shave. Even when the technique is mastered, it still won’t be like visiting a men’s salon, so there will still be a reason to go back, and have someone else take care of the shave.
